On a recent visit to RSPB Otmoor, my other reason for visiting Beckley, I had a long conversation with  Ian Wagstaff. He grew up in the Oxford area and later went into motorsport journalism. He remembers attending IXION scramble meetings back in the 60’s with his friend Paul Wickson and Paul’s father.With Ian using a Brownie 127 film camera. Ian remembers Paul later riding trials before going on to grass track.

 He found a few photos that he took of an Oxford Ixion trial, albeit back in the 1960s. Shown is John Avery winning the Up to 200cc Cup with his Honda.

Not sure that cigarette would be allowed these days. The notes on the back of the photos state that Avery and Carter were members of the Oxford Ixion club while the other two are listed as WMA.

More recently he mentions Oxford IXION in his book, 'Oxford Revival - a speedway success story' in 2022, as the then Oxford Motor-cycle speedway club split from it in 1937
