Report Ken O'Brien
Fine weather greeted sixty odd riders at Ixions new venue 'Newman's Quarry' where four laps of 10 sections were taken in.
The main aim today was to make as much money as possible for our chosen charity the MIND organisation and was also in memory of former club member and friend Phillip Howkins.
Raffle Girls Sally O'Brien Caroline Howkins and Maureen Faulkner sold many tickets and raised over £100 for the cause and all in all we should be handing over more than £400.
Popular Intermediate Michael Johnson put the best performance in on the hard route losing 14 with a faultless ride on section four a wooded climb dropping to a fairly sharp turn and up over a very steep loose bank and the man on the pencil was the legendary Ron Langston.
Section one was a tricky affair on the White standard route with a short climb and right hand camber to clear before attempting a very stiff gravely climb to the summit but eventual joint clubman winner and local farmer Ali Haigh had no problems here as four perfect rides were recorded.
Tony Evans from the Evesham club was also on four but a tiebreak was not an option today as scores were identical although Tony's machine was slightly cleaner than Ali's.
John Langston took Novice honours parting with 12 as did Kevin Miller but the most cleans rule was brought in and swayed the verdict although Kevin put some fine rides in on section three a devil of a section up around an ageing willow dropping over roots and a very steep camber to negotiate before dropping off a ledge down an almost sheer bank.
Ben Hayes rode well today and was rewarded with best Youth B cleaning every section on his 125 Gas Gas with the exception of number ten which to be fair was awkward sub twisting and turning over a soil and chalk bank and a really loose turn to the ends only two cleans were recorded here thoughout the proceedings.
The Blue eased route was a different matter altogether and pre race favourite Kevin McCullagh duly obliged with a clean sheet.
The author weighed in with six and this was best Pre 65 on the day but a trip out of section ten contributed five to this amount.
It was good to have a sprinkling of Trail bikes on parade and Pete Barnett guided his 400 Suzuki around for a very impressive two marks lost with Pete's riding companion Neil Ludlow 400 Honda making two fives his only penalties.
